Bring it on 2025!

We have done it once more – another trip around the sun, completing an entire year; and now we can do it all over again!
Endings aren’t anyone’s cup of tea (remember how sad we were when they stopped airing Friends on Netflix?) but with every ending comes a new beginning… and many of us like to start anew.
Sri Lanka bids farewell to 2024 in true island style with a lot of holidaying and partying that began at the end of November and will continue through December.
With family and friends visiting from Australia, Canada, the UK and other corners of the globe, we will be patronising the many Christmas high teas and dinner buffets in Colombo, and galloping up and down the country, pausing only to catch our breath – and indulge in some year end shopping and Christmas cooking.
Our quirky little island is living proof that good things come in small packages – and this December, we will be seeing the best one yet when it comes to cricket.
Cricket lovers will flock to stadiums across the island or sit at home, glued to their TVs, from 12 to 22 December to watch the inaugural edition of the Lanka T10 League. Remember when we thought that 20 over games were too short?
Well, think again!
And when January dawns on that first Wednesday of a new year, we’ll sigh and say how short the first week of the year is – and how fast it will end!
Being Sri Lankan means staying happy and hopeful…
So fed with kiribath and kaevum, and armed with a host of New Year’s resolutions, we’ll plan to make this year count. It may involve a little more travel or perhaps a lot more exercise and fitness commitments; but whatever our goals are, we’ll strive to do better than we did before.
Although foreign astrologers have predicted that 2025 isn’t going to be a good year, we Sri Lankans know better than to worry about forecasts – irrespective of whether they’re weather or war related. We take everything with a pinch of salt!
We prefer to focus on enjoying the good things in life… such as the 26 holidays that 2025 brings, of which only four will be lost to a weekend.
Resilience is our shield and seeing the silver lining is our sword – and it’s with this ingenious combination that we’re telling 2025 to bring it on!
