Make it Memorable

Um, make what memorable? Life, of course – since we’re heading into one of the most action-packed times in the Sri Lankan calendar.

The excitement kicks off with International Women’s Day on 8 March when we celebrate the wonder women of the world who keep proving that equality really is the way to winning.

Keep an eye out for Living’s Women’s Day panel discussion ‘Live, Laugh and Love’ on our social media platforms where we talk to Sri Lanka’s women wonders… about how they celebrate life.

Climate smart conservation tops all agendas in 2023 and that means making Earth Hour count more seriously than ever before – from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on 25 March.

While Sri Lankans can take pride in the fact that we celebrate multiple ‘earth hours’ on most days (thanks to those infernal power cuts, which hopefully will now be a thing of the past!), it’s really about trying to make a lasting difference that will help save the planet.

And now, our magical island is playing host to its newest oceanic visitors – humpback whales. Here’s hoping that we Sri Lankans can play an even larger role in saving Planet Earth by protecting the seas, which make up about 70 percent of its surface.

When April comes along, we’re not only excited about taking the mickey out of people on the first day of the month but also the many parties we’ll be attending in the 30 days ahead.

Easter Sunday, Sinhalese and Tamil New Year, and Ramadan, are all coming up in a span of around 10 days and reminding us about the joys of celebrating diversity. That’s a lot of action, plenty of celebrations and many memory making moments to look forward to.

April ends with the musical world celebrating International Jazz Day. Here at Living, we are playing the music early by jazzing up our cover with Sri Lanka’s very own jazz superstar Jerome Speldewinde whose approach to life is as improv as the music he’s most known for.

While the force may or may not be with you, we’re going back to space in May with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So await a star-studded (pun intended) tale where the guardians will go on one last dangerous mission and keep the team intact.

It’s going to be a fun filled season with an abundance of holidays in the sunny isle of Sri Lanka. So let’s make it worthy of the memory books – or ‘Insta’ stories. You decide.
