A bomber jacket is an investment purchase well worth making according to Rihanna, who rotated various styles from Vetements, Telfar and Raf Simons over the summer.
Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa and Kim Kardashian have put their own fashionable twists on the bomber jacket, too. Bieber has leant towards fitted silhouettes from Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta and Magda Butrym – the Polish brand behind her beloved blazers. Dua, on the other hand, has been championing bomber-puffer hybrids from cult label ERL.
As for Kim? She’s stocked up on Balenciaga’s edgy bombers, of course. For a recent outing she wore baggy maroon joggers, a one-shoulder top and an oversized Balenciaga satin bomber, paired with the brand’s slick Knife boots.
Bombers emerged as a trend at the autumn/winter 2021 shows, and by spring/summer 2022, they were everywhere. Blumarine’s buzzy Y2K bombers came in hot pink and gold; Donatella and Kim Jones’s “job swap” Fendace show included vintage-esque baroque-print bombers; Coperni presented a classic khaki style worn cropped and off the shoulders; and at Hermès, they were realised in the most luxurious.
