Since we spend plenty of time at home these days, why not turn our interiors into beautiful, fresh and modern spaces? So be inspired to redecorate with our breakdown of the coolest design trends for 2022…
BIOPHILIC HOMES What began last year as a simple move to welcome natural elements into our homes has evolved into fully blown biophilia.
Interior design is giving life to our desire to connect with nature. And natural materials such as plaster, stoneware and terracotta add depth and texture to decor, as well as introduce a restorative and calming energy.
Indoor plants can help bring nature into your home, and be complemented through the use of bamboo and cane furniture. Forest inspired motifs such as mushrooms, moss and magnolia flowers make for great wall–paper patterns or stand-alone objets d’art.
LET IN THE LIGHT Given the amount of time we spend indoors due to working from home policies, a lack of sunlight can be glo-omy and depressing.
The best way to counter this is by installing more windows. Skylights and wall-to-wall windows will let in natural light and provide excellent ventilation.
Don’t be afraid to use and experiment with different types of glass. In fact, a variety of glass panes can be used to create a dazzling avant-garde effect. If your window area is limited, harness the power of reflected light. The use of strategically placed mirrors can brighten up your living spaces.
COLOUR ME GREEN In line with the theme of natural decor, the colour palette of the season is verdant all the way. Green is the new neutral – with pistachio and sea foam green rapidly replacing cream and white walls.
You can also employ deeper hues of bottle and emerald green, to add luxurious accents to window frames and doors.
If you prefer to keep surfaces and fittings true neutral, green throws, pillows and blankets can add a touch of lush to your interior landscape.
RETRO RETURNS Luckily, garish orange walls and ultra dark flooring can stay in the past! The ’70s touch in 2022 is meant to add only a pop of colour, and oomph its way through the clever use of vintage elements.
This trend marks a move towards warmer woods such as teak and oak, which can be used for panelling, doors or even home bars. Silver toned metals such as pewter and steel are also back in a big way.
